Ben is a graduate from Liverpool John Moores University having studied a BSc (Hons) degree in forensic anthropology. Through his studies, Ben has accumulated research and report writing experience which will be invaluable to him in his work at Alecto Forensics. He looks forward to starting his career in forensic science and criminal investigation at Alecto and aims to specialise in the fields of crime scene investigation (CSI), forensic anthropology and forensic odontology.
From 2017 -2021 Ben formed an excellent relationship with Merseyside Polices’ Crime Scene Investigation Unit. During this time, he attended the Crime Scene Investigation Unit on numerous occasions and attended scenes of crime to observe best practice. He interacted with officers and observed a drug production scene in dark, cramped living conditions. This experience provided Ben with practical knowledge of the difficult conditions that CSIs face.
During scene examinations with Merseyside Police, Ben pointed out potential evidence items for DNA and fingerprint analysis, which were then examined as part of the investigations. Through this, Ben developed a robust understanding of the administrative aspect of a CSI’s role, including how to add reports to forensic casework management systems such as Socrates and Niche.
Ben’s research so far has involved conducting statistical analysis of cases stored within the Missing Persons Bureau database. Findings from this research identified several interesting patterns relating to hotspot areas for people to go missing or remains to be found, as well as patterns related to ethnic backgrounds.
