Mike Moulden

BEng (Hons) MSc MCSFS ChFP

Mike is a Consultant in Crime Scene Investigation, IED Exploitation, and a Professional Trainer for Alecto Forensics. He has worked in the field of forensic science since 1993 and has undertaken crime scene investigation including volume crime, major crime, counter terrorist activities, genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity since 1999. He is currently the Forensic Coordinator for the Kosovo Special Prosecutors Office in The Hague, an operational CSI/CSM for Surrey Police on a response basis, and a Fire Investigator for a firm of professional forensic engineers, investigating fires and explosive events across the globe.

Mike is a Chartered Forensic Practitioner with the Chartered Society of Forensic Science, and is the current Honorary Secretary for the Society. He is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Archaeology, University of Exeter, as well as a Visiting Lecturer for a number of higher educational institutions.

He undertakes professional training for CSIs and CSMs, and delivers CPD courses for police professionals for Alecto Forensics, and fingerprint and DNA exploitation on terrorist materials for DSTL Fort Halstead.

Mike has previously worked for three UK police forces, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the United Nations, and the Forensic Science Service.

From 2015 to 2016, Mike was a Coordinator for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), a United Nations backed international investigation into the assassination of the Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri and twenty other related IED assassinations. He was also a member of the Working Group of The Minnesota Protocol on the Investigation of Potentially Unlawful Death for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and authored sections of this document (reissued 2016).

In 2004, he formed a CSI unit in Afghanistan and was subsequently deployed as part of Operation Herrick whilst working for DSTL. During his time at DSTL, Mike also provided pre-deployment training for the UK Special Boat Squadron (SBS) in biometric exploitation.
